Miners often squish these beetles on sight. They will burrow into anything, including wooden shaft supports, leather boots, and that delicious slug spine sandwich that the miner was planning to eat for lunch. Since the petal Worm can eat its weight in beetles, the miners try to entice worms to their work sites by leaving squashed beetles along the tunnels. Since they are an unavoidable pest, some of the unluckier miners have also tried using them as a food source. Rumor has it they taste a little like Arbor nuts.
